The Goal

The goal of this device is to create a seamless, user-friendly solution for individuals with hearing impairments, enabling them to stay informed through customizable visual and tactile alerts. By eliminating the need for a smartphone and offering quick access to emergency contacts and medication reminders, the device aims to deliver convenience, safety, and independence in everyday life.

The Problem

This device delivers visual and tactile alerts for everything from phone calls to doorbells, and even medication reminders. Plus, users can customize the alerts, choosing their own vibration patterns and light colors for different notifications. It’s like having a personal assistant who never sleeps. There is a need for a dedicated device that can provide discreet and reliable notifications through visual and tactile means, without the dependency on a smartphone.

The Target audience

The target audience includes hearing-impaired individuals who need a reliable way to receive alerts without relying on a smartphone. This device is especially beneficial for people seeking independence, such as the elderly or those who are not tech-savvy but still need a simple and effective way to stay connected with important daily events and emergency situations.

My Role

As a Product Designer, I was responsible for the entire design process of this wearable device, from initial concept to final design. My responsibilities included, developing wireframes, creating prototypes, and designing the user interface. The goal was to ensure that the device was intuitive, accessible, and met the specific needs of individuals with hearing impairments.

Onboarding Screen

When users first power on the device, they are greeted with a welcome screen prompting them to select a Wi-Fi network. This step ensures the device is connected to the internet, enabling all its features to function seamlessly. Users can choose their preferred network from a list of available options. After connecting to Wi-Fi, users are asked to choose a setup option, either to record a sound or to add an emergency contact.

Medical Reminder

To assist users in managing their medication schedules effectively. Users can set up a list of medications they need to take, including specific times for each dose. The device sends reminders to ensure they don’t miss any medication. Additionally, users can add new reminders, edit existing ones, or delete reminders that are no longer needed, making it easier to stay on top of their health routine.

Alert Notification

To allow users to personalize how they receive alerts from the device. Users can customize the LED colors for different alerts, ensuring each notification is visually distinct. They can also choose from various vibration patterns to match their preferences. This customization helps users differentiate between different types of alerts and enhances their overall experience with the device.
