Overview

"Scripted" is a social media app that reimagines the art of letter writing in the digital age. Unlike typical social platforms that focus on short posts and instant updates, Letters allows users to craft thoughtful, long-form content, similar to blog posts, but with an intimate and personal touch. Each user's page is a collection of beautifully formatted letters, enhanced with photos and AI-assisted writing tools. A unique feature of the platform is that every letter must be addressed to someone—be it an individual, a group, or even a public audience. Additionally, users can respond to letters with replies, creating meaningful conversations across the platform.

Role

As the sole product designer, I was responsible for:

• Conducting initial user research to understand the target audience's needs and behavior.

• Designing the core user flow, including letter creation, letter replies, and multimedia integration.

• Developing wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web and mobile platforms.

Project Goal

The primary goal of this project was to design a platform that encourages users to engage in thoughtful, creative, and long-form communication. The platform needed to provide a simple and intuitive interface while also offering advanced features like AI-assisted writing and multimedia integration. The key objectives were to:

• Create an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface.

• Enable seamless AI assistance in the writing process.

• Ensure smooth integration of multimedia elements such as photos.

Target Audience

1. The Scriped app is designed for individuals who enjoy sharing personal stories, experiences, and reflections in a more thoughtful and intimate format than what is typically available on current social media platforms. The primary audience includes:

   
   

   • Storytellers and Writers: People who love sharing detailed narratives, whether about their travels, personal journeys, or everyday reflections. They may find traditional social media too restrictive for expressing themselves fully and are seeking a platform that allows them to communicate in long-form, much like a written vlog.

     
     

   • Travel Enthusiasts and Bloggers: Individuals who travel frequently and want to document their adventures in a meaningful way. "Scripted" gives them the ability to combine storytelling with photos, allowing them to narrate their journeys in a structured and engaging format, while addressing their content to friends, followers, or the public.

     
     

   • Personal Journalers: Those who enjoy reflecting on their personal growth, challenges, and milestones, and want to share those reflections in a more thoughtful and intimate manner. These users often prefer writing to video blogging but still want to reach an audience, making scripted an ideal platform for them.

Write Letter

The "Write Letter" feature is central to the Scripted app, offering users a flexible and creative platform to share their stories in a long-form format. When users start writing a letter, they are greeted with a simple yet powerful interface that allows them to fully express their thoughts. The app offers AI-assisted writing, which provides helpful suggestions while still ensuring the user maintains full control over their narrative. This tool makes the writing process smoother, especially for those who may need a little inspiration or assistance while crafting their letter.

To further personalize their letter, users have the option to change the background color. This customization feature lets users set the tone for their writing and adds a unique, personal touch to each letter. Whether they want to make their letter feel calm, vibrant, or nostalgic, the choice of background color allows them to create an aesthetic that complements the content.

After completing their letter, users can choose to assign it to a category. This feature is designed to help the letter reach a wider audience. By selecting a relevant category, users can ensure that their letter is discovered by readers who have an interest in the specific topic or theme. It also helps organize the content on the platform, making it easier for others to find letters they’re interested in.

Additionally, users have the ability to tag their letters. They can either create new tags or use existing ones they’ve previously established. This tagging system is particularly useful for users who write about ongoing themes or series. For example, if someone is documenting their travel experiences in Paris, they can tag all their letters under "Paris." This not only helps them organize their own content but also allows their audience to easily follow their journey. Tags function like a personalized archive, grouping related letters together and making it simple for new readers to find and explore connected content.

AI Assistance

The AI assistance in the scripted app plays a pivotal role in enhancing the user’s writing experience by providing several helpful tools. First and foremost, users can leverage the AI for voice-to-text functionality. This allows them to record their letters by simply speaking, with the AI transcribing their words into text. This is especially useful for users who prefer speaking over typing, or when they want to capture their thoughts quickly and efficiently.

Once a letter is written, users have the option to ask the AI to help them refine it. The AI can rewrite the letter, offering improved phrasing or more polished language without losing the user's original tone and intent. Additionally, if a user feels their letter is too long, the AI can summarize the content, distilling the key points while maintaining the essence of the message. This is especially useful for creating concise versions of long letters that might be more accessible to readers with limited time.

The AI also offers support on the reply management side. If a letter generates numerous replies, the AI can step in to summarize them, giving the user a high-level overview of the responses. This saves time by allowing the user to quickly grasp the general sentiment or main ideas from the replies, rather than reading through each one individually.

In addition, the AI provides grammatical checks and corrections, ensuring that the letters are not only well-written but also free from errors. For users who want to adjust the length of their letter, the AI offers the flexibility to either shorten or extend the letter, depending on the desired impact. Users can choose to make their letter more concise or add additional details, all with the AI’s assistance.
